Candi Jabung

Candi Jabung merupakan salah satu peninggalan bersejarah di Probolinggo yang terletak di Desa Jabung, Kecamatan Paiton berada pada ketinggian 8 m dpl. Candi ini terbuat dari batu merah dengan ukuran, panjang 13,11 m, lebar 9,58 m dan tinggi 15,58 m. Sebelum dipugar areal candi ini seluas 35 x 40 m dan sekarang telah mendapat perluasan 20.042 m2. Seperti bangunan candi umumnya Candi Jabung terdiri dari bagian subbasement, bagian kaki candi, tubuh candi dan atap candi. Ditinjau dari sudut arsitektur Candi Jabung sangat menarik, karena bagian tubuhnya berbentuk bulat (silinder) yang berdiri diatas bagian kaki candi bertingkat tiga berbentuk persegi. Sedangkan bagian atapnya berbentuk stupa. Letak pintu bilik candi berada disebelah barat, maka Candi Jabung menghadap ke barat. Pada sisi barat masih terlihat bagian yang menjorok ke depan merupakan bekas susunan tangga naik memasuki candi. Di sebelah Barat Daya halaman candi terdapat bangunan candi. Menara sudut di perkirakan penjuru pagar, fungsinya sebagai pelengkap bangunan induk Candi Jabung. Candi Menara sudut terbuat dari bahan batu bata, bangunan candi tersebut berukuran tiap-tiap sisi 2.55 meter, tinggi 6 meter. Arsitektur Candi Jabung sangat menarik, mempunyai komponen berupa batur, kaki, tubuh dan atap, pada bagian tubuh bentuknya bulat (silinder segi delapan ) berdiri diatas bagian kaki candi yang betingkat tiga berbentuk persegi.

Sedangkan pada bagian atapnya dagoda (stupa) tetapi pada bagian puncak sudah runtuh dan atapnya berhias motif sulur-suluran. Di dalam bidik candi terdapat lapik area, berdasarkan inskripsi pada pintu masuk candi Jabung didirikan pada tahun 1276 c (saka) = 1354 Masehi masa kebesaran kerajaan Majapahit. Menurut keagamaan, Agama Budha dalam kitab Nagara Kertagama dan Pararaton Candi Jabung di sebutkan dengan nama Bajrajinaparamitapura. Dalam kitab Nagara Kertagama candi Jabung di kunjungi oleh Raja Hayam Wuruk pada tahun 1359 Masehi pada kitab Pararaton disebut Sajabung yaitu tempat pemakaman Bhra Gundul salah seorang keluarga raja. Di lokasi Candi Jabung anda bisa mengetahui sejarah seluk beluk Candi Jabung dari informasi yang terpampang di depan. laskan bahwa pada tahun 1978, kondisi candi tampak tak terurus, seluruh bangunan ditumbuhi pohon dan rumput liar. Baru pada tahun 1980 pemkab Probolinggo melakukan pemugaran umtuk merenovasi dan menggantikan bagian yang rusak. Baru pada tahun 1986 setelah pemugaran selesai, Candi Jabung sedah bisa dinikmati wisatawan.
